WW2 Slouch Hat, with provenance to a Captain in the Royal Artillery

A nice original slouch hat to a British Officer in the Royal Artillery (RA). It is dated on the leather sweatband 1942 and handwritten "Capt. E. Malcolm 162908". Our research shows that this is Captain Edwin Malcolm in the Royal Artillery, service number 162908 and he is Mentioned In Dispatches in the London Gazette 28th January 1941.

On the front of the hat is the original Officer's bronze cap badge for the Royal Artillery in beautiful condition, and the cloth insignia for the RA is to the side, in good condition.  There is evidence of moth nips in different places but it's not terrible. The leather sweatband is all present, the silk bow tie just dangling now on a thread. There are plenty of signs of service wear and the chinstrap is missing.  Size 6 7/8.
